The Cummings Poker League Presents...

This event has expired. Congrats to Adam Scimone for winning the Invitational.

Head's-Up Invitational 2012

This special CPL event takes place on Saturday, April 21st.

WHAT IS THE HEADS-UP INVITATIONAL? It's a one-night Texas Hold'em tournament. The term "heads up" means playing poker one-on-one. Players that register will be randomly entered into a single-elimination tournament bracket. Using the bracket, players will be matched against a sole opponent. The winner of each heads-up match moves further into the tournament until there is a single heads-up champion. The starting stacks and blind schedule are altered from regular CPL regulations, as discussed below.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO REGISTER FOR THIS TOURNAMENT? Entry fee is $20 and a sealed deck of cards. If you wish to register, contact Robbie on his cell or at corpusrooster@gmail.com.

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER OF CPL TO REGISTER? No. The twenty CPL players get the first opportunity to register, but there are thirty-two spots available for players in this tournament. That means even if all the current CPL players register, there are still twelve positions to invite others to participate.

WHAT'S THE PAYOUT? At the end of the tournament, the top four spots pay. 1st Place wins 50% of the pot, 2nd Place wins 25% of the pot, 3rd Place wins 15% of the pot, and 4th Place wins 10% of the pot. For example, if the tournament had thirty-two players, the pot would contain $640. The winner would receive $320, runner up would receive $160, third place would receive $96, and fourth place would receive $64. A playoff will be necessary to determine 3rd and 4th place. Payout will occur as soon as the tournament ends.

WHEN/WHERE IS THE TOURNAMENT? This special CPL event takes place on Saturday, April 21st, 2012. It will be at Monica's house and starts @ 5pm.                         BYOB, no food provided

DOES THIS TOURNAMENT AFFECT MY CPL POINTS? No. This event has no direct connection to the current CPL point counts.

A regular tournament-style poker game will take place after the Invitational. The buy-in will be $10 and it will follow the published CPL regulations (minus the point system).

Below, you'll find the sign-up sheet for the Heads-Up Invitational. Contact Robbie to have your name added before the spots fill up. Below the roster, you'll find the rules/specifics of the tournament (starting stacks, blinds, etc.). We hope you join us and win some money!!

Sun, February 19th - Sun, March 4th: Only CPL members may begin registering.
Mon, March 5th - Sat, April 21st: Anyone is invited to register.

THE SPECIFICS:

Only No-limit Texas Hold'em will be played. Standard rules for winning hands, betting order, etc. will be followed. All money collected from entries is paid out as winnings. No cut is taken for any reason. This tournament is Texas-legal.

NUMBER OF TABLES: When the tournament starts, all players will begin their first heads-up match. For example, if there are thirty-two players total, sixteen matches would be played in the first round. Each match can be played simultaneously (which is why a deck of cards is part of the entry fee). There is no "number of tables" to define because each match consists of exactly two players.

In the event that less than thirty-two players register for the tournament, the same bracket will be utilized. Random "byes" will be assigned in the first round if this happens.

STARTING STACKS: The three colored chips that will be used are red, blue/green, and black. At the start of each heads-up match, both players will begin with $2000 worth of chips (2 blacks, 7 blues, and 6 reds). Players will not be chipped up during the Invitational. Here are the values of the colors:
Red = $50
Blue/Green = $100
Black = $500

FORMAT AND BLINDS: Players' starting position in the tournament bracket will be chosen at random. If a player loses a heads-up match at any time, that player is eliminated. The starting position of the dealer button will be chosen by coin flip for each match. The dealer is always small blind.  Players should make sure all fifty-two cards are present before a match begins. Blinds will start at 50/100 and raise every ten minutes. Here is the blind schedule:
50/100
100/200
200/400
500/1000

The second round of matches will not begin until all first round matches have concluded. This will allow a single blind clock to be used at all times.

PLAYOFF: A playoff will be necessary to decide 3rd and 4th place. The two losers of the semi-final matches will play each other to determine this placing.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registration officially opens on 2/19/12.  Players may have their name added to the above roster without submitting their entry, but they will not be allowed to participate in the tournament until the $20 and new deck have been submitted. If a player is signed up, they are expected to pay their entry and play.

Sun, February 19th - Sun, March 4th: Only CPL members may begin registering.
Mon, March 5th - Sat, April 21st: Anyone is invited to register.

STARTING TIME: The tournament will start at 5pm sharp on 4/21/12 (Saturday).

No rakes/cuts are ever taken on the league's behalf. Players are never charged an additional fee outside of the normal buy-in. Tournaments are privately held. All players begin events with equal odds of winning. Players are prohibited from making "deals" during a tournament.  The tournament must be played until a single player has been deemed the winner. Players must follow all etiquette, including never showing another player their hand or performing any other actions viewed as cheating. No more than thirty-two players will be registered for the Heads-Up Invitational. No string betting. Cards speak for themselves. Substitutes are not permitted at any time. Only CPL chips will be used during the tournament. All money/decks submitted to the Invitational are non-refundable. Rebuys, add-ons, bounties, special points, and/or antes are not a part of the tournament. If the dealer mistakenly reveals a burn card or a player’s hold card prior to the flop, a misdeal will be declared. If the dealer mistakenly reveals a burn card after the flop, all players shall be allowed to see the revealed card and the hand will continue. In all matches, regardless of round, players always start with $2000 worth of chips. Chips "won" in prior matches expire after each round. If a player deliberately or excessively violates CPL policy, that player may be expelled from the tournament without refund.

All rule disputes will be resolved solely by a CPL Director (Robbie Cummings or Russell Pullen).

Brooke Irey will serve as assistant-director for this event only. She will have authority to rule in game-play conflicts for individual matches and will also help with recordkeeping.

Monica Krueger is the event coordinator for the Invitational. A special thanks goes out to her for providing the late night venue.
